Matthew Rael for County Commissioner
Chaves County, District 5

I am a lifelong resident of New Mexico and have called Roswell/Chaves County home since 1997. I am not looking to becoming a career politician, rather I am your neighbor and look to serve your interests. I had a realization that the only way for change to happen is to get involved myself at a higher level. I am an alumnus of Eastern New Mexico University and New Mexico Highlands University. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Social Work. I am also a licensed clinical social worker. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Sandra, for 31 years; in addition, I am also blessed with four children and seven grandchildren.
I am a conservative christian republican that would like to utilize my education and experience to improve Chaves County and build on the county's successes. I understand the interworkings of government, as I have spent over 22 years working for the State of New Mexico in various leadership positions. I understand when and how the government should limit their involvement in the lives of citizens. As county commissioner, I look forward to advocating and protecting our civil liberties.
My goal is to collaborate with city and county governments, as a large portion of district 5 in within the city of Roswell. My priorities as county commissioner would include public safety, addressing our aging infrastructure, addressing homelessness/mental health/chemical dependency, and promote new business development to help grow our local economy. I will work for you and represent the needs of the community of Chaves County, New Mexico.
